Backstory: I never dreamed when I wrote The Japanese Art of Sex: How to tease, seduce and pleasure the samurai in your bedroom, I would be speaking about geisha and performing Japanese dance at La Biennale in Venice, Italy, the oldest and most prestigious cultural arts festival in the world.  I also had the opportunity to sign copies of my Harlequin Spice novel, The Blonde Geisha, in Italian: Passioni di una Geisha.  Come to Venice with me as I explore the city in my video series: Jina’s Excellent Adventure in Venice, Italy.

Today’s Venice Video Episode:  I take you on a tour of my room at the Hotel Saturnia

I so enjoyed the Hotel Saturnia.  The elegant room with its own frig, built-in plasma TV and shower in the bath that cascades out of the ceiling like a waterfall.  (You’ll see it in the video).  I had a lovely view of the courtyard and in the mornings I could hear the church bells and the birds singing in tandem.  Charming

The food was outstanding.  Every morning until 10:30 a.m. they have a buffet breakfast  included with the room that features delicious, fluffy scrambled eggs, bacon, sausage, croissants, rolls, fresh fruit, cakes, orange juice and coffee.  You need such hearty fare to get you going because in Venice you walk everywhere.

The hotel staff speaks English and is committed to making your stay comfortable.  Housekeeping is there when you need them and everyone always has a smile and “Buongiorno” for you everywhere you go in the hotel.  I highly recommend Hotel Saturnia and intend to return…

Coming up in my next Venice video: I take you on a personal tour of the elegant Hotel Saturnia

Today’s Venice Video Episode: My Private Boat Taxi to Hotel Saturnia

After I arrived in Venice at Marco Polo Airport, it was time for Enrico (my Italian bodyguard) and me to board the private boat taxi to Hotel Saturnia.  It was close to sundown (I had been traveling since mid-afternoon the day before when I left Los Angeles), the air was cool and refreshing…

Let me tell you.  There’s nothing like a wild boat ride to beat jet lag.

It was exhilarating.

And what an experience.  Riding up and down the canals on a warm summer night, the water lapping at the sides of the boat, the night lights popping on and lighting up the ancient buildings as we made our way to my hotel.  I’ll never forget it.  Grazie, Enrico and La Biennale coordinator, Stefania Lora!

Coming up in my next Venice videoI’ll show you my room at the Hotel Saturnia…with the sexy “waterfall” shower.

Jina Bacarr on Air France with her Spice novel, Naughty Paris

Jina Bacarr on Air France with her Spice novel, Naughty Paris

Today’s Venice Video Episode: From LAX to Venice on Air France.

I started out in at Los Angeles International Airport, flew to Paris, changed planes and then on to Venice.  There was a baggage handlers’ strike in Paris that day so my plane was late leaving LAX.

Fortunately for me, the Air France agent in LA, Fernando, changed my connecting flight to Venice for a later time and I made it to Venice with all my baggage intact.  I was so relieved because my Japanese costume that I wore for La Biennale was in my packed bag.

My Italian bodyguard, Enrico Dal Bianco, met me at the Marco Polo Airport.  He was tall, charming and spoke English (and helped me with my Italian).  He made sure I got to my hotel in my own private boat taxi…

Japanese Art of Sex in trade paperback

I never dreamed when I wrote my book, The Japanese Art of Sex: How to tease, seduce and pleasure the samurai in your bedroom, I would be speaking about geisha and performing Japanese dance in Venice, Italy at La Biennale, the oldest and most prestigious cultural arts festival in the world.

I also had the opportunity to meet my Italian Harlequin Editor, Alessandra Bazardi, and sign copies of my Spice novel, The Blonde Geisha, in Italian: Passioni di una Geisha.

How did this all happen?  It was just like a fairy tale…

Once upon a time my nonfiction book featuring geisha, The Japanese Art of Sex, was translated into Italian…along with my coming-of-age novel, The Blonde Geisha.

Passioni di una Geisha

Passioni di una Geisha

Rino De Pace, the coordinator, at La Biennale invited me to be part of the dance festival and on the panel debating on the subject of using the body as an erotic medium of expression with critics and performers from around the world.

Stefania Lora helped me finalize the plans and the PR director, Lucia Da Re (you’ll meet Lucia in the video) assisted me when I was there (you’ll meet Enrico Dal Bianco, my Italian bodyguard, in a later video).

And then there was Alessandra Bazardi from Harlequin Italy.  She was fabulous!  Bringing copies of my Passioni di una Geisha books from Milano, setting up a book signing and taking me to dinner afterward.  Grazie, Alessandra!

So here is the video I put together of my La Biennale experience!  I’ll be putting up more videos of Venice–bookstores, gelati, pizza, shops, arriving in Venice by private boat, my hotel palazzo, etc. so check back for more fun in Venice!

Ciao, ciao.

I love Venice, Italy.  Pizza, art, gondolas and bookstores!

Bookstore in Venice, Italy

Bookstore in Venice, Italy

On my trip to Venice to speak and perform at La Biennale Arts Festival, I had a chance to check out my books in Italian bookstores (I’ve been fortunate to have several books translated into Italian).  I was amazed at the number of independent bookstores in Venice.   When bookstores are closing in the U.S., this was a welcome sight!

I found books of every description in the stores.  I was also delighted to discover that my Passion books (romanzo erotico–erotic novel) are also sold in the grocery markets.

I shot some video of the bookstores that I found and a wonderful store that showcases rare 19th century books.

Venice, Italy bookstore

Art and travel books abound in this bookstore.

I’m thinking of putting together short videos of my experiences in Venice (including the bookstores).  Fun stuff: my glam hotel, sexy T-shirts I found in the open market,  restaurants, shops, gelati stores, and video I shot of a great pizza place my editor and I found on a hot summer night!!

So, what do you think?  Want to go to Venice with me?

If you want a preview of my Venice trip, I’ll post a video I made of my La Biennale experience this weekend, va bene?

Il Profumo del peccato (Sinful Perfume) is the name of my Spice novel, Cleopatra’s Perfume in Italian.   I was very excited to see they used the same cover as my American publisher (Harlequin).  Since I had already put together a book trailer in English, I decided to use the same video, podsafe music, still photo, etc.

I love the blurb my Italian publisher wrote, but it was way too long for a one-minute book trailer [see July 13 & 14 for English translation].  So I used what I thought made sense and recorded the voiceover.  I used to live in Italy and recently took a trip to Venice to speak and perform at La Biennale, so my Italian isn’t too bad.

I love doing voiceovers (I used to do radio commercials in English and Spanish) and this one was a lot of fun.  So here it is, not one but two book trailers in Italian for Il Profumo del peccato.

In my post on July 13th, I talked about my Spice book, Cleopatra’s Perfume, being translated into Italian.   Using part of the book blurb written by my Italian publisher, eHarmony.it , I put together a book trailer in Italian, which I will post on Thursday.

Here is the second part of the blurb that I translated and used in the book trailer:

Passioni di una Geisha

Passioni di una Geisha

“Jina Bacarr, author of Passioni di una Geisha (The Blonde Geisha), takes us into a film noirish atmosphere in the year leading up to 1940, enticing us with sensual dreams, spies, secret missions, situations and affairs beyond your wildest imagination.

Sinful Perfume (Cleopatra’s Perfume): Love, passion, intrigue.”

Until Thursday, ciao!
