Backstory: I never dreamed when I wrote The Japanese Art of Sex: How to tease, seduce and pleasure the samurai in your bedroom, I would be speaking about geisha and performing Japanese dance at La Biennale in Venice, Italy, the oldest and most prestigious cultural arts festival in the world. I also had the opportunity to sign copies of my Harlequin Spice novel, The Blonde Geisha, in Italian: Passioni di una Geisha. Come to Venice with me as I explore the city in my video series: Jina’s Excellent Adventure in Venice, Italy.
Today’s Venice Video Episode: Venice Street Scenes and Performers
Did you know there’s a bar/ristorante in Venice named “Bacaro?” Since my last name is “Bacarr” I couldn’t resist checking it out. Come with me as I take you inside this elegant restaurant and show you around.
Then it’s off to the Promenade near the Piazza San Marco and wail until you see the wonderful flow of people, tourists and Venetians alike, enjoying this summer day. And the souvenirs! I bought T-shirts, fans, masks and an umbrella imprinted with Italian landmarks (I live in sunny SoCal, but it does rain once in awhile).
You’ll also see street performers. These are characters dressed up in beautiful costumes who “strike a pose” on Venice streets and remain that way for a period of time. Since medieval times, the Piazza has been the place for jugglers and street hawkers selling beads, lace and glassware. And dreams.
Come to Venice and you’ll see why it’s called a place of enchantment.
